    Success Stories

    Fundraising Walks for Medical Research

TransAction began working for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Dave McGillvary Sports Events (DMSE) in 2010 to organize and manage the transportation for the participants and volunteers for the Jimmy Fund Walk. The event includes four different starting locations for walkers along the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon course route, twelve water stops, and a finish in Copley Square.  TransAction coordinates three additional bus company vendors with a total of 50 buses,  the Medical Sweep team that takes walkers off the route for medical reasons as needed, and trains and oversees the transportation ground crew.  By analyzing shuttle usage data over time, TransAction recommended reducing the number of buses needed, while still efficiently transporting more than 8,000 participants.

    TMA Membership

Businesses and property owners who join a TMA find that their membership provides them with a great resource that benefits their organization. Several Alewife TMA members were interviewed for the organization’s newsletter and spoke about what they find most valuable about being a TMA member. David Last of Last2 Development, Property Manager for West Cambridge Science Park said that “The TMA puts on excellent events, and they help coordinate everything for us that is transportation related.” TMAs not only benefit their members, but also the regions where they are located. Tom Ragno of King Street Properties, manager of properties on Cambridgepark Drive and Concord Avenue, said that the TMA is “thinking about this all the time and putting creative ideas forward to improve multimodal transportation in the community."
